Hey guys
After Thursday night’s showcase it seems that people like to hear about what I’m doing so I’m going to try and blog more regularly about it. In the past I have been confused about whether to talk about what I’m doing with Room4Rent and my studies or talk about issues which apply to Room4Rent such as the Rugby World Cup. Blogging is hard, ask anyone who does it for a living, so to make it easier for myself I’m going to stick to talking about my business and what I’m up to. Hopefully it won’t bore you!
The Distiller Showcase was an amazing event to be a part of. I have to thank everyone in The Distiller who helped organise it. A big thanks also has to go to the judges who gave up their time to come and grill the start-ups. I was very honoured to receive the 'Bodmer Plate of Glory' for the Room4Rent presentation. Steve’s support and generosity are the reasons The Distiller exists in its current form.
The night was filled with many highlights but some of my favourites were Ollie's flaming shoes, Ollie’s shadow hands, Ollie’s comedy… yea ok Ollie was awesome. For those who didn’t attend, we had a few technical breakdowns throughout the night as is to be expected with technology. The longest meltdown came at the very end of the night when Splashroom was trying to play their showreel (which was amazing) unfortunately the laptop would not play ball and so to keep everyone entertained Ollie ‘showcased’ his stand-up abilities. It was very entertaining and thankfully they were able to get the film going. Another highlight was the judges' calls throughout the night. What began as very formal feedback progressively got funnier as the night wore on and the empty wine bottles formed the shape of ten pin bowls. My favourite had to be “So if I want to find a joint in Mosgiel can I find it on your platform?” (I-visit) or something along those lines.
I was a no show at The Distiller on Friday thanks to the open bar at the showcase and some generous friends in town. Back in today (Monday) and I have a meeting with David Band, who lectured our 408 masters of entrepreneurship class, to go over my business plan to try and get it water tight for my Audacious entry due on Wednesday. Hopefully this year I will do better than last year.
Would love to hear your comments and thoughts about The Distiller Showcase, what was good and what could be improved.
Thanks
Sam
